Newtown News: "Why are our children being exposed to this?"

13/4/2018

Picture
A comment made by a residents of Newtown this morning that was forwarded me the picture of a scene in Markford Walk which has only increased.

He also explained to me the underlying issues surrounding this rubbish mound, which I intend to address also, which should have been addressed by the three local Councillors, which he did not even know their names. So what have they really been doing.

Clearly, this is just a lack of interest and this is a common trend by residents which has only sought to increase voter apathy in Newtown.

The chilling statement by this resident was a simple one "what hope is there for our children" and "why are our children being exposed to this?"

At a time when we are concerned about the future of our young people this is not a good scene for them to have to face daily.

It is my intention to ensure that the future is brighter by addressing these issues.

Please keep the information rolling in "I'm here working for you already and will continue to do so a your Councillor from 3rd May. A vote for me is a vote 4 change and will give Newtown the voice it desperately needs", for "everyone and not the chosen few"

Newtown News: Tower Blocks

12/4/2018

Picture

In the past 48 hours, I can confirm that I have visited all 20 Tower Blocks in Newtown owned by Birmingham Housing Department.

Some were ok and some were very well not so ok.

It is clear from my previous experience that despite cosmetic appearances, not much has changed and conditions in some cases should be far better than they are  now.

Also the withdrawal of the concierge service has impacted upon residents feeling safe in addition to the increasing anti-social behaviour, drug dealing and using in the communal areas and in fact access to services also. Some residents are advising me that the additional sums for concierge and cleaning are still in their rent but they are not receiving these services.

Well let me make it clear, this will be addressed and your vote for me on Thursday 3rd May will ensure that the Housing Department delivers the required service to you the residents.

These are important issues for you and these flats are your home and you have a right to feel safe, secure and have a decent environment for you, your family and your visitors.

This is a message to "everyone and not the chosen few".

Newtown News: A New Approach

11/4/2018

Picture
Last night, I was at Hodgson Tower and all I saw outside yet again was rubbish.

The residents were just mortified when the realised the rubbish had been cleared and appeared yet again. One indeed described it as a way of life.

Clearly, a new approach is needed and this is in hands of residents of Newtown and that is to Vote for Desmond Jaddoo on 3rd May 2018 and we will deal with this together and the other issues that residents are facing locally.

Clearly the political, economical and social neglect is there to be seen and together we will make it better. In the meantime I have yet again asked for the rubbish to be cleared.

This is for "everyone and not the chosen few".

Newtown News: Monday Morning Feeling

10/4/2018

Not the best sight to see when you come out of your front door on a Monday morning.
A simple message that this is being dealt with and well will continue to deal with it.

in the meantime your help in needed to identify those who are doing this.

Please use your mobile phone and take photographs and forward them to me.

You can also email the Council Fly-Tipping Department or simply forward them to me. A vote for me will also bring the request for CCTV  to cover the hotspots in order that we may prosecute and seize the vehicles of the perpetrators on this constant misery.

Your current Local Councillors yet again have done nothing about this.

This is for "everyone and not the chosen few".

Newtown News: Weekly Advice Surgeries to come to Newtown

9/4/2018

Picture
It has been made clear over the past few months that accessibility to the current elected embers in Newtown has been basically non -existent.

As such your vote for me will bring weekly advice surgeries to Newtown at differing times along with additional surgeries on demand at the three supported living schemes.

It is clear that this disconnect has led to mass disaffection in the area and a complete mistrust of Politicians, that needs to be repaired.

Whilst the rubbish complaints mount and the issues of Knife & Gun Crime along with burglaries and anti-social behaviour are of concern, basic issues such as housing repairs, street lighting, pot-holes, communications with residents; to name a few items  are all being missed.
Clearly, there is a need for better access as there is no Neighbourhood Office either in Newtown which is ridiculous. I find it amazing, that local residents suffer so much congested parking from a Council Building for which they have no access to services that some of them desperately require within the locality.

I am not going to play the blame game, it is more prudent that I say; elect me on May 3rd and I will take responsibility to address these issues. A start is accessibility and advice surgeries with expressed start and finish times. Also you already have my mobile number and in fact have been using it.

Clearly, the people of Newtown deserve better representation which is based on the commitment of the individual named of the ballot paper.

The days of let down will end on May 3rd with your vote for me.

You need representation for "everyone and not the chosen few".

Newtown News: A brighter future for our Young People

8/4/2018

Picture
The provision of facilities and opportunities for young people in Newtown has been raised, time and time again.

Many have said despite the funds poured into he area there has been no substantial progress, which has been clearly highlighted with the demise of the drum and the proposed closure of  Newtown Community Centre.

Having done some work with some of the local Schools it is clear to me that we have some talented youngsters for whom we need to take collective responsibility in order to ensure we create a level playing of opportunity for them, socially and economic, with support for academic achievement at the forefront, be it through the academic trail or apprenticeships.

I  addition to this supporting their individual aspiration as opposed to cocooning them into stereotypical roles. Hence the importance of creating opportunities.

The pathways at time are very treacherous and with the ever increasing concerns surrounding Gun and Knife crime, for the past 4 years, I have been advocating for a joined up Multi agency approach, which has fallen on deaf ears.

Clearly, the blame game, the lack of taking responsibility and lack of Leadership is contributing to this also.

The residents of Newtown have a clearly choice for change on Thursday 3rd may and that is to vote for Desmond Jaddoo.

My pledge is to work with you to create a brighter, non-violent, prosperous and unified future for our young people.

This is important as recently in Great Hampton Row there was an argument between two men in their 20's and it was getting heated. After diffusing it they both told me the same thing and I summarise it as follows:

"We don't like each other and there is no love here. We cannot reason with each other as in a dispute all we want to do is kill each other".

This is a very powerful statement and very need to work together to change this mind-set.

"It is time for everyone and not the chosen few".

Newtown News: Housing Matters

7/4/2018

There are various issues regarding Housing management of Newtown. From Temporary Accommodation impacting upon anti-social behaviour allegedly, to lack of repairs.

Some of these have been historical and these reports to me are increasing daily.

Clearly, there is a greater need for a cooperative approach to dealing with these issues. One resident has advised me that they have a problem with accessibility; since the closure of Newtown neighbourhood Office and that they find it hard to report repairs.
From Communal paved walkways to lighting to grass area and fly tipping.

Families living in inappropriate accommodation and the communal conditions leave a lot to be desired, despite the best efforts of a portion of the caretaking staff, however, in some instances they are n=being let down by contract cleaners.

Accessibility into communal area for various purposes impacts upon families with one resident advising me that when she picks up her children from school, she does not leave her flat again until the following morning. Hence feeling imprisoned owing to issues within her block.

Clearly, this is unacceptable. This main issue has been a clear breakdown in communications which has been impacted by the open neglect by the current Local Councillors, who have failed to represent you.

In my talks with Housing management I know they are keen to develop greater relationships moving forward.

It is time for you to stand up for yourselves and be the change you want to see on Thursday 3rd may 2018. It is a simple choice, the status quo or Desmond Jaddoo.

I am here for "everyone and not the chosen few".

Newtown News: Time to break with Tradition

6/4/2018

It is the continual tradition over many years, why Newtown has been forgotten about. Clearly, when you are unable to name your Local Councillors, which was yet again highlighted yesterday when I visited a over 55 scheme in the area. None of the residents were able to name their local Councillors and in fact have never seen them.

Off course they have issues that required attention such as; being harassed whilst crossing the road, the condition of paving slabs, pot holes in the roads, speeding cars, and off course not forgetting the common theme rubbish on the streets.

They have seen the clean ups which have been arrange and have actually welcomed this and the plans to move this forward, as at times they feel embarrassed when relatives visit owing to the state of the approach to their homes, despite all oft heir communal areas and gardens being spotless.

As Elders, any connection is only through their Office manager and no-one else.

Clearly, unacceptable and Politicians need to be held to account for their lack of representation of their constituents and the cardboard image that exists, which only seeks to fuel the mass disaffection and low turnouts at elections.

It is time for change, I am visible and accessible and will continue to be for "everyone and not the chosen few", irrespective of whoever you vote for; however, I essence you should be voting for change and progress and that is a vote for me.

Newtown News: Working Together

5/4/2018

I see the issues being faced by the residents of Newtown be tackled by simple process of collective responsibility.

You have been let down, however, this will  no longer be the case especially after 3rd May.

I have made it my duty to connect with St. Georges Church, The Huda Centre, Pastor Rose at The Peoples Chapel, The Huda Centre, Calvary Church of God, The Awaken Church, Mount Zion Community Church, St. Chads School, St. Georges School, St.Georges AP, Newbury School and Newtown Community Centre and there is still more to be done, as of course it is a work in progress.

It is clear that first hand knowledge and joining up the dots has to be the way forward. Anyone that wants to represent an area must at least have a good knowledge of the area.

Most of all connecting with you the residents daily.

In the meantime look out for my next flier next week and please do read it and get in touch.

Just on a footnote, please monitor the rubbish and do raise all concerns with me. Furthermore, do let me know of any additional concerns reading Anti-Social Behaviour and the burglaries.

The campaign on the Gun and Knife Crime agenda continues and there will be a grass roots independent strategy in the coming weeks, as we do need to eradicate the scourge of this from our streets. This is about the blame game, more about taking responsibility to deal with it as there is not a single answer, hence the need for a joined up unified approach.

This is for "everyone and not the chosen few".

Newtown News: Road Safety

4/4/2018

Picture
Road safety has been highlighted in Newtown with the continual issue of congested parking and rat runs.

Hospital Street for example has been raised with the issue of speeding cars from New John  Street West during the day and then speeding with ASB at night.

Similar issues have been raised and witnessed by myself in the Burlington Street area, whilst St. Georges has the same issue along with seriously congested parking during the day, owing its proximity to the city centre and Jewellery Quarter.

In addition to this the further concern of the shopping centre car park being used for drag racing at night.

These are all historic issues, which have never been addressed by the local Councillors, who claim that they are there for the people of Newtown.

Clearly, the fact that non of these matters have ever been addressed, clearly, show a major disconnect, lack of leadership and representation for Newtown.

These are issues that I am raising and will ensure that traffic calming measures and enforcement takes place, as this is an area with families and we wish to see no incidences during school times and especially during the holidays.

The people of Newtown deserve better and that choice is theirs on Thursday 3rd May 2018. Its time for change and you the people of Newtown hold the key.

This is for "everyone and not the chosen few".
