On a walk about Ladywood yesterday, I visited Ladywood Neighbourhood Office in order to confirm whether or not it was open to the public.
Whilst approaching I saw three members of the public go to the door and then walk away as the door was locked.
I saw a gentleman there telling me he needed some help with housing and I found a telephone number on the door for him to call.
On the front door was sign that this office has closed down and your nearest office is Newtown.
Yet again, another instrument of connection for the people of Ladywood has been removed. many years ago the Swimming Baths, then the Secondary School, which became a Leisure and Arts Centre which is now to be demolished to make way for a proposed Hotel and Leisure facility and then the proposed closure of Spring Hill Library, just to name a few.
My concern is; are the People of Ladywood aware of what is really happening on their doorstep or is it a case that as voter turnout and civic participation is so low, no-one sees the value in ensuring that the local people are fully up to date on the developments in their neighbourhhod.
I say this simply because people were still approaching the front door of their Local Neighbourhhod Office and had to walk away, as it was shut.
Is the a developing trend and a taste of things yet to come. Its time to get involved, if you are available, please attend the Public Meeting tomorrow evening at 5.30pm Spring Hill Library.
It is time for change and the people of Ladywood need to be put first.
