At the end of a week where we have seen the high profile issue of Trust and Confidence in the Police Service being questioned, more violence on our streets and issues surrounding accountability and transparency; coupled with the undying issue in our society of Race Discrimination.
The key question must be why have these issues existed for many years and have not been tackled.
The common denominator has been give it a little attention and it may go away. However, bad news; we are on a merry go round, so it comes and goes.
The main conclusion I came to this week, is that its time to stop making excuses and get a big broom and clean it all up. It is up to as a Community to join forces irrespective of who you are in order to tackle the issues we face in a meaningful manner.
Despite the devastating cuts which impact on the poor and vulnerable in our society the real power is with us the people, which is something that I have be saying for quite some time now.
We must hold all of those in authority to account. Politicians are elected and not appointed. however, if you stay at home when you have a chance to voice your real power by voting then you are basically allowing them to be appointed by others.
Staying away from public meetings such as Ward Committees, Council Meetings etc, only allows the minority with alot of power to be non accountable to you, the people with the real power.
If you do not voice your concern about the issues that affect us all in the local communities, how can we ever invoke the desperate change that is needed to improve our City.
The key point is that we cannot just voice our concerns, we must get involved in order to ensure that it happens.
Internal Community Politics doesn't help either as it is distraction from the bigger picture.
It's time to get the boots on and get them muddy on the road to change, the power is with you and no-one else. Don't be fooled anymore, you are the catalyst for change.
