The whole concept of having Elections is for the People to decide who represents them.
On this occasion despite the original forecast of a hung Parliament, the Conservatives ended up with 330 seats which represents a majority of 10. Many are already talking about Electoral reform, which was rejected by the people in 2011.
The facts are simple just as when I stood for election for the first time in Ladywood at last years local elections, I did not win, however, I'm not complaining about the system, which was simple whoever gets the most votes in that area wins.
The people have spoken and both the Leader's of The Green Party and UKIP were not elected by the constituents in the area in which they stood. However, there are issues being made about Electoral Reform, the facts are everyone knew what the system was before the Elections in addition to rejection of reform in 2011.
It may well be the case that reform is needed, however, we need to get more people engaged in the process in order to create greater and fairer representation.
The facts are the people have spoken, here in Birmingham there are now 9 Labour MP's and also the City Council's is Labour controlled.
Nationally we now have a Conservative Government, who can say they have a mandate to Govern having secured a majority now matter how small some Political Commentators may say.
The bottom line accountability starts now and it is up to us the people to now hold them all both locally and nationally to account.
One thing I will point out is the power of the people, just remember three Party Leader's have resigned following the people speaking by way of our votes, although it could be argued that Nigel Farage may be having a summer break, however, remember it is you who have decided and no-one else.
Those of you who did not bother to go out and vote you silence has only indicated approval.
There is still alot to be done, but, just remember the real power that you have and it's impact.
