Whilst on a walkabout and talking to residents in the Melbourne Avenue/Ventnor Avenue area of Newtown, two main points were made, the ever increasing rubbish and the lack of representation (which one described as "non existent rubbish").
Clearly, the depressive state of the area is self evident and in fact some of the residents themselves are contributing to the problem. It is clear that this has developed over a period of time, where the area has been totally neglected.
Despite the opinion of others, residents have welcomed my presence and being based locally there is no chance of me going away soon. Residents just want home, they love their homes, however, the way in which the area has been allowed to deteriorate is just not good enough.
Residents, want a good access to services, their Local Councillors and importantly, cooperation in maker their community greener and brighter and not the doom and gloom which causes them depression.
I pledge that I will work with local residents not only to clean up Newtown, but, also help tackle fly tipping and those that dump rubbish, by working with the Enforcement officers.
If you see anyone dumping rubbish, please forward me their details and I will pass them on without revealing your identity, at your request.
Saturday a clean up has been arranged in the Burlington Street area and we will ensure that this spread across Newtown productively, not because of just an election as this is not the first one we've done.
