Nelson Mandela signified that one person can make a difference and rise above oppression, no matter the obstacles.
From Freedom Fighter to Prisoner, From Prisoner to President, From President to Immortality. His light has not gone out, but, it will be shining not only over South Africa, but the World forever.
Today we hear many Politicians paying tribute to Madiba, however, he was a man that fought for equality and for his beliefs he was branded a terrorist, some of these Politicians.
South Africa was undoubtedly the most racist, oppressive and segregated place on earth. I recall the images of Black People being beaten and killed for seeking freedom and equality, during the 70’s and 80’s.
Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for his beliefs and was released in 1990, after 27 years in captivity with the same beliefs.
With those beliefs, he changed a nation, indeed there are generations today in South Africa that only hear about apartheid.
Nelson Mandela was a true statesman, whilst in captivity, he was world renowned, upon release from prison he was a world leader and in death his legacy is everlasting.
He was a true leader that practiced what he preached. He encouraged the people of South Africa to forgive. He impressed upon them to concentrate and today and plan for a better future, whilst reflecting upon the past by ensuring it never happens again.
The demonstration that all people could work together irrespective of their race was clearly demonstrated by Nelson Mandela in his leadership and indeed transformation of a nation.
Today we do not mourn; we celebrate the life of a true world leader, a man that never gave up, a man that was the face of the fight for freedom and equality, a man that was the face of peace, unity and reconciliation, a man that was a true inspiration for all.
This is not the end of an era, but, the inspiring of the world to strive for Unity, Equality and Peace.
Nelson Mandela cared, as we all should.
Rest in Peace Nelson Mandela (Madiba), no longer with us, but, you will live on forever in our hearts. God Bless you and your family.
