Over the past few days there have been absolute controversy about the 'plebgate affair' and the actions of the Police.
However, lets not forget that this week another one of our children Joshua Ribera was laid to rest, after being fatally stabbed by a knife.
We have alot of work to do and this must be done together and in unity. The issues of transparency and accountability with regard to the Police, is an argument that will persist for some time yet as it is difficult to change an inbuilt culture overnight,
We must focus on the task ahead, which is a knife amnesty in Birmingham; that has been agreed in principle.
It is important to our young people to take this forward with all agencies and the whole community taking up the responsibility by playing their part in this, as it is not just about handing in knives, but a full education process in order to save a life. We do not want more grieving families.
After the political rhetoric is over with the 'pelbgate affair'. we will still have the issue of knife crime and youth violence to deal with in our city.
Therefore, you decide which is more important upon the lives of people in this city.
Lets stop arguing and get on with it.
