I noticed that I have not updated my blog recently, however, being busy walking through the ward, talking to the residents and attending residents and community meetings have taken priority in order to develop that all important dialogue that is necessary when seeking to represent the people of Ladywood in an informed manner.
There are several issues rearing their head, issues surrounding children services, education, jobs, infant mortality, health inequalities, mental health, youth provision and community facilities, are just a few off the issues.
Another issue is clearly environmental with fly tipping and the already misuse of newly delivered wheelie bins which I had to address in Holliday Street outside of Churchgate Plaza.
However, a major issue that is very apparent is Housing. I find myself drawing on my experience and indeed have had to deal with some housing matters already, however, what has alarmed me are the conditions of some of the dwellings and the associated environmental factor which are impacting upon the area, which can be addressed with some positive attention with working together with all of the residents within the Ladywood Ward.
Clearly, I say "People First Not Party", however, let me explain this, I believe in the people of Ladywood and I am prepared and willing to continue my work, which has commenced, with them in order to build a better environment for all and importantly for the future and to rid the area of the stigmatisation of poverty that is persistently highlighted, but, never tackled in a positive manner.
Let me make it clear, many will say, where do you start, well i have and that is getting to know the residents and clearly understanding their needs and not what I perceive them to be, being visible, letting them get to know who I am and what I stand for. Giving them some hope that I wont be disappearing into the comfort of the Council House after the election or indeed away from Ladywood.
It has been a refreshing journey so far which will continue, but, clearly the key point of this journey is to increase electorate turnout and to reconnect the people of Ladywood with civic life in its entirity which is open for all.
With no funding and working with others groups there is a Family Day Inspiring a New Generation on Saturday 10th May 2014 at Ladywood Community Centre and not forgetting the opening of the outdoor Gym in Chamberlain Gardens on Monday 5th May 12 Noon, also the Community Event on Saturday 3rd may 2014 at Ladywood Methodist Church.
Clearly there is alot of work to be done in order to rebuild Ladywood and this can be done but clearly we all have to work together.
My message is clear "People First Not Party" as I believe in and am willing to work with the people of Ladywood. So make it count on 22nd May 2014 and vote for me Your independent Candidate Desmond Jaddoo.
