I attended the Ladywood Loop Consultation yesterday at Ladywood Community Centre.
Basically I saw three Officer and a couple of pop up banners, with a few diagrams showing the proposed redevelopment including the City Hospital relocation.
There are still quite a few unanswered questions, such as the actual type of 1150 dwellings. It was clear some will be private and affordable homes, however, the actual tenure of social housing is still up in the air apparently.
There are also plans to demolish the Old Ladywood School Building shortly and start mapping out the site, but, it could be a further 3 years prior to work really commencing on the site.
There are also plans for a Hotel and Leisure Centre on the Site of the Old swimming Baths, but, will this be fully open for community use.
My key question is a simple one, will local people be employed, during this redevelopment and will substantial apprenticeships be offered to young people with opportunities of further employment.
I do believe the consultation could have been more effectively staged and yet again is it just a tick box exercise, to say it has been done.
Your opinion does matter and may I suggest for more information you contact 0121-303 4057 or 0121-464 9855 for further information.
One thing I will make it clear that i am committed too, is these large schemes must provide local jobs and opportunities for local people, in order to boost the whole area socially and economically.
