Today saw the commencement of the Trial of 3 West Midlands Police Officer charged with Perjury and Perverting the Course of Justice in the case of Kingsley Burrell who dies following being detained in March 2011 under section 136 of the Mental Health Act.
Kingsley sadly passed away some 72 hours after being detained following Police Contact for which in May 2015, an Inquest Jury concluded a damming narrative verdict of neglect.
The conduct of three West Midlands Police Officer's Paul Adey, Mark Fannon and Paul Greenfield was called into question and they were duly charged with Perjury and Perverting the course of Justice particularly in relation to evidence that they gave at the Inquest concerning a covering over Kingsley head for which today the Jury of 7 women and 5 men were told they have pleaded "Not Guilty".
The case was adjourned today until 10.00am Wednesday morning at which point the Prosecution will open the case against the three Police Officer's.
The duration of the trial is expected to be 7 weeks.
