These are my own personal thoughts of the first week of the Kingsley Burrell Inquest.
Initially, I have always said once I saw the demographic make up of the Jury that it is important for people to register to vote, as this jury was made up of 6 men 5 women and only one BME member which was an African/Caribbean woman, and remember unless your registered you can never do Jury Service, as jurors are selected from the electoral register.
Once evidence commenced from Kingsley's sister and partner, the extent of the shocking revelations began, such as his head being covered, Police Officer's administering injections, him being punched in his face all matters for the Jury to consider.
The events as they unfolded, his 999 call on more than one occasion for help, whilst at the shop in Icknield Port Road, where his demeanor changed once two men walked into the shop.
Indeed Kingsley did not call the fire brigade, however, there was a call to the Police and the Ambulance Service who dealt with the call.
Three Police Officers including an Inspector gave statements which were totally different in many ways, the only consistent statements were concerning, two officer's drawing their Taser's which appeared to have been completed jointly and word for word.
Ambulance Officer also giving differing accounts and indeed Doctors at the place of safety also giving differing accounts, in addition to changing their evidence, whilst in the witness box.
The main is is the treatment given to a man that called for help, it would appear that he made the most fatal telephone call of his life in my view as what unfolded afterwards led to his death.
This case involves several agencies and having heard evidence from 4 of them to date, it is only the Fire Officer that has any credibility, in my opinion.
Let's not also forgot the commencement of an emotional roller coaster for the Burrell Family, as although Kingsley children have legal representation his Mother and sisters have none. Therefore, this adds extra pressure upon his Sister Kadisha and his mother Janet in as much, as having deal to deal with their emotions as the evidence unfolds they also have to record the information and ask questions of the witnesses, in their search for answers and Justice for Kingsley.
It is going to be very interesting to see how this case develops over the next week.
