A comment made today by the Ambulance Technician that was a trainee at the time of transporting Kingsley Burrell from Mary Seacole to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Birmingham.
The two West Midlands Ambulance Technicians gave evidence today and to say their accounts differed to the actual photographic and statemented evidence would be understatement.
They responded to a request to transport Kingsley to the Capra Suite via the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on 30th March 2011.
The main issue surrounded the placing of a blanket over Kinglsey Head. There was an admission by the Ambulance Operative who carried out the deed, stating it was a sheet even in his statements, however, once the photographic evidence taken from the CCTV was examined it was clearly a blanket.
However, there is no real excuse for covering Kingsley head with a blanket whilst his buttocks was left exposed whilst restrained in hand and leg cuffs and strapped to a stretcher.
The excuse that he was spitting at people was used, for which their were spit masks on the Ambulance, so why did they abuse him in this way, claiming they were caring for Kingsley.
The worse part is the fact that they had to be referred to their statements as they clearly were giving different accounts and they changed they minds more times in front of me whilst under oath, than any person would believe.
Furthermore, it is clear that Kingsley was being hit whilst restrained and strapped to the stretcher whist in the back of the Ambulance, based on accounts given in evidence.
What is even more alarming is the issue surrounding the Nurse not travelling on the Ambulance, for which the Ambulance staff denied that a conversation of this nature had taken place.
To compound this the Ambulance staff stated that when they got to the Capra Suite, the recognised staff from Mary Seacole, but could not describe or explain who they were.
The other issue, by his own admission, the Ambulance Technician travelling in the back of the Ambulance with Kingsley appeared to have not monitored his vital signs as effectively as he could.
However, here's the confusion a member of the ambulance crew gave evidence, that this has been been one of the most violent and aggressive persons he has ever come across. When they arrived, Kingsley was restrained with handcuffs behind his back and leg and thigh restraints and was then strapped to a stretcher and was swearing.
The jury has been given alot to think about.
The case continues..tomorrow 9.30am.
