The prosecution spent most of the morning outlining the principles of the case, which is basically that 3 West Midlands Police Officer's allegedly lied about there being a covering on Kingsley Burrell's head. Despite evidence to the contrary P.C.'s Adey, Fannon and Greenfield told IPCC Investigators and an Inquest that there was no covering. For this they face Perjury and Perverting the course of Justice chrges.
The Jury are not being asked to focus on the rights and wrongs, but the fact as to whether this covering existed and if so have the Officer told the truth or not.
Clearly there is a long way to go in this Perjury trial some 7 weeks.
Importantly, some of the issues will be undoubtedly explored during the hearing in coming weeks.
More tomorrow.
