One would have believed that the current administration here in Birmingham; that claims to be transparent would have issued the Capita Contract so it could clearly demonstrate its contents without posing additional questions.
Despite the state of the City in these times of Austerity and the Cuts that are impacting upon our neighbourhoods, with withdrawal of community facilities, Library closures, ever increasing reliance on foodbanks, people stealing nappies and baby food, a Company yes a Company is being paid £345,000 per day to provide core Council Services which in my view the City should have in house.
The 60 day clause of termination may be in the contract but why is it that the financial penalties should there be any have not been published.
Is this what we call being transparent, we hear the phrase commercial confidentiality, but the contract is with Birmingham City Council, meaning that we the people are party to this contract, so why have we only been given a portion of it.
Although this is welcomed and also the Deputy Leader looking into the viability of moving these services in-house. One has to point out that being transparent should signify us have the complete picture. Not in this case.
It is clearly actions like this that fuels the mass disaffection in the Wards of Birmingham, which need to be tackled in May and I intend to tackle in Ladywood.
The big question is this an example of People First.
