The message is gathering momentum stressing who has the real power when it comes to appointing leadership in Birmingham and indeed nationally.
A well attended Bring out the Vote Gospel Concert at The New Testament Church of God Spring Hill Birmingham known as The Rock,during a night of great and inspiring Gospel Music, Poetry and Rapping was given the strong message that if we are concerned with issues such as:
1. Political Under Representation/Leadership
2. Under achievement in Education
3. Jury Demographics
4. Deaths in Custody
5. Prison Demographics
6. Youth Engagement
7. Stop n Search
then we the people are the ones that hold they key to dealing with the issues that affect our daily lives.
We have a responsibility to ensure that we pave the way for a better future for our children, by building upon the legacy of our parents, by stop complaining and start doing.
The first thing we need to do is to ensure we are registered to vote and then use it.Furthermore, get involved, apply to become a Local Authority School Governor, despite my experiences we cannot be deterred. Inquire about become a Custody Visitor with the West Midlands PCC Office or a Independent Monitoring Board member at your Local Prison.
It was further pointed out that the make up of Jury's are selected from the electoral register, so if your not on it then there is no consideration.
Complaints and representations can be made about stop n search by joining Police reference groups of through the elected PCC Offices.
The various issues surrounding the Political and civic engagement of young people is being tackled through our Youth Forum.
Therefore, apart from enjoying a night of entertainment which the pictures demonstrate, there is a clear message which inspired the audience and it is that we the people have the real power through voting and civic involvement. It is also the Communities responsibility to work together to resolve the issues that affect our daily lives.
