I met up with Laura Witjens Chief Executive of the National Gamete Donation Trust, during her filming of a documentary of Sperm Donorship for Austrian Television.
One of the reasons for the basing of the National Sperm Bank in Birmingham was owing to the City's diversity coupled with the fact that there are a shortage of donor from the African & Caribbean also the Asian Community.
The main point to remember is that this service will help produce life for those who are unable for various reasons unable to produce children themselves.
We are aware that whilst some may welcome this and indeed participating, there are many who would not.
However, they are seeking donors and further information can be found on their website.
This does requirement commitment and needs to be taken seriously, also the concerns that donors may have need to be addressed, which Laura has assured me that measures are in place not to only support donors, but, also answer those all important questions.
There are times when we need to help each other. The important factor to note the programme is based over a 4 month period and needs to be taken seriously.
On a short walkabout on Dudley Road the differing in opinions based on culture and religion were made clear. Whilst some openly admitted that they would participate or contemplate it, some were against, however, whilst objecting, they did see the benefit of it.
