Initially my sincere condolences go out to the family of this young man who has lost his life. The issues in Great Hampton Road in terms of gun and knife crime have not gone away it has been happening sometimes unreportedly and this is of concern because it is my view that this issue has not been effectively tackled in this area.
Some 18 months ago following a spate of violence in we had a public meeting and presented a report to Birmingham City council and they have not done anything really tangible in terms of moving the agenda forward. Clearly it is my understanding that this is yet again another drive-by shooting and on this occasion someone has lost their life.
It is now time for all agencies and groups to come together and work on this agenda urgently or more lives will be lost clearly this is not the image we want to Birmingham and importantly today a family is in mourning and the community yet again in shock with the stigmatisation of gun crime. It is not time for Miss agenda to stop being politicised and for tangible action to be taken in order to deal with this every freezing epidermic which is ultimately destroying families.
Having been on the ground this morning, one mother has said and need to leave this area with my 2 children as I am now living in fear yet again, whilst , another says "we feel that we have been left here to rot".
Clearly, urgent action is now required this isn't about cuts nor funding, its about wanting and being willing to make a difference with a meaningful and joined up approach with everyone singing from the same hymn sheet which is not happening at present.
